EAL Level 3 Award in the Commissioning, Handover and Servicing of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems to BS 5839-1

Course Overview

This qualification covers the understanding and practical skills required for the application of BS 5839-1 inspection, servicing, commissioning, and handover. It is a vocationally related qualification – therefore does not require competent evidence of performance from the workplace, or automatically prove competence, but will facilitate safe working in the inspection, servicing, commissioning, and handover of fire detection and alarm systems to BS 5839-1.

Who is this course for?

This qualification is aimed at those working within the sector who wish to gain the necessary understanding and practical skills in the inspection, servicing, commissioning, and handover of fire detection and alarm systems.  It is also useful for electricians wishing to undertake CPD.

Pre-requisites

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification; however centres should ensure that the learner has the potential to achieve the qualification.  Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to complete the learning outcomes and assessments.

Learning objectives

This course is designed to enable the learner to gain a basic understanding of: –

  • Health and safety requirements applicable to fire detection and alarm systems
  • BS5839 and related industry guidance
  • The requirements for the inspection of fire detection and alarm systems
  • The testing procedures for a fire detection and alarm system
  • Limitation of false alarms and unwanted fire alarm signals
  • The documentation and handover process
  • Periodic inspection and servicing requirements for fire detection and alarm systems
  • Carry out the safe commissioning and handover of a fire detection and alarm system
  • Carry out the inspection and servicing of a fire detection and alarm system.

 

Assessment

The qualification is assessed by a centre marked written controlled paper and practical assessment (consisting of two tasks).

Following completion of the course and a successful pass mark in the assessment, we will issue an EAL Level 3 Certificate.
