Overview:
The EAL Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment is a Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ). It is designed for learners who work or who want to work in Construction. The qualification meets the requirements for learners to achieve a formal knowledge based qualification in order to apply for the CSCS UK Ltd Green Card. Successful completion of this qualification and the CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test will enable the learner to access construction sites in the UK as a nonskilled worker.
This qualification is supported by ConstructionSkills and was developed in conjunction with CITB and CSCS UK Ltd.
Qualification pre-requisites:
Learners must be at least 16 years old. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, learners must have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification. In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required to comply with the health and safety aspects of the qualification, the completion of the learning outcomes and the assessment.

How is this qualification assessed?:
Assessment methods within this qualification include a Centre marked paper-based or electronic controlled knowledge assessment for the mandatory unit. Assessment methods have been designed to assess the knowledge, understanding and skills of learners for the unit.
The assessment is set by EAL and marked by members of the delivery team at the Centre.
Where the assessment takes the form of written/short answer or multiple choice question papers, appropriate control measures must be in place.
All assessment decisions are subject to internal and external quality assurance.
How is this qualification delivered?:
This qualification covers the knowledge of the principles of risk assessments, the importance of safe manual handling, working safely at height, the risks to health within a construction environment and the importance of working around plant, machinery and equipment safely.
The qualification has 21 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 29 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT).
